Just when you think Google can’t outdo itself! Enter their next brainchild – Google TV! Yes you read that right! They announced plans to have this available in the fall of 2010. This concept plans to bring you all the things you love about the Internet and TV together in one new incomparable service. While the idea of integrating the web and TV have been around for about 10 yrs., Google is finally ready to bring this platform to fruition.
With this venture, Google has partnered with several huge companies to make this dream a reality like Intel, Sony and Logitech. Your TV will now act as one big central hub for all your entertainment pleasure. You will be equipped with a full web browser and unlimited access to the Internet. The goal is to be able to view web content and TV on one device from the same interface. Each TV will be equipped with both Ethernet and Wi-Fi capabilities to make surfing the web a breeze!
What’s even better is that you don’t have to go out and spend tons of money on a new TV with this service built in, because they are going to have a set top box, called a Buddy Box that will allow you to have this service brought right to your existing TV. Google TV is poised to make your TV smarter and easier to use, which will allow you to spend less time trying to find something to watch and more time actually viewing your favorite shows. You will be able to jump back and forth between the web and TV with the push of a button, or at least that is the plan. While the Google TV demo today used a huge interactive keyboard, you can be assured the forces that make up this high tech partnership, will have a universal remote ready for the actual launch later this year!
While you may be wondering what is going to happen to satellite and cable companies, there is no need to fret. Google TV is going to work beside those services and does not intend replace them for now. In fact, one of the new partners for Google is Dish Network. The dish network will seamlessly integrate its DVR with the new Google TV system.
So, all of you wonderful techies and non techies alike out there can look forward to yet another awesome technical advancement by that which is Google. Isn’t technology amazing? Who knows what will be waiting for us around the corner? Well whatever it is, you can be sure that Google will always be leading the charge!
What do you think of this news? Maybe you have some more information that I did not cover here. Either way I would love to see your comments on this announcement! As always, please feel free to share this with all your friends in the social networking world.
Yours In Success,
What a great age to live in. Of course my Mother said that when she bought her first loaf of “Sliced Bread”. The next big thing I suppose will be the coming true the phrase “Beam me up Scotty” Great post Glyna as always.

Saw that on ecoming. Especially since you can get TV on computers now. The next step had to be Internet going after TV sets. Soon you won’t be able to tell the difference between a tv and a desk top computer. Lol
Glyna,
Interesting news. Technology is moving forward so quickly now. Some people will probably be very happy to see this next step. I personally don’t watch TV so it’s not going to mean alot to me. This will keep companies on their toes to keep ahead of the trends. Kind of like print newspapers and magazines – they have to adjust or lose out!
Thanks for keeping up the latest concepts coming out,
Val 🙂

Thanks Val
You are so right Bill – you can hardly tell the difference now! Thanks for the comment!
yes!!! Advancement and progress! This is going to drop the prices of cable/satellite services significantly – just like what happened to the long-distance services between the 90s and the 2000s.
Also, this will raise the bar on the quality of channels that the providers have!

I agree Paul – this is definitely a good thing all around! Thanks:)
Glyna,
Wow… now we can connect on the Internet from our big, comfy couch… with a big screen and all!
It will be interesting to see how it looks from the get-go and then how it improves over time. Some technologies work well from day one… some not so much. Time will tell…
To the future and beyond!
Thanks,

I am probably the only person who does not care about this service. I do not even own a tv any longer, so you can understand that Google TV does not make a bit of a difference to me. But I can certainly see the value for those who use both media.

Hey Glyna,
Great post my friend. I love technology and I look forward to the opportunity to take this new stuff for a spin. There will be so many options available that will change the game of TV. Glad to have Google leading the charge.
Make it a great day!

Glynna, My immediate reaction was, “Oh no!” I sit at my computer for hours every day already. It is so nice to get up from the computer, sit on a real couch and enjoy my favorite TV programs (the few that I watch). The next step might be creating really comfortable mini couches for all those computer potatoes (pun on couch potatoes).
I can’t wait to see how the cable/satellite companies deal with this. I think this will take marketing to a whole new level…again!
I’m keeping my eyes on this one…Thanks for the info. Glyna!

Very cool Glyna! Thank you so much for sharing all of the details of Google TV.
You made it so simple and clear. I heard the buzz, however, I did not take the time to understand all of it, so you saved me the research.
Thank you so much.

This doesn’t surprise me.The only thing I see are more ways to keep people glued to the TV instead of being active. I love my computer but I will not become a couch potato.

Yes – I think you are right Michelle! Thank you for the nice comment.
LOL – that is a really good idea Dr. Erica! Desk chairs can get uncomfortable:)
You are so welcome Donna! Thank you for your comment.
I can’t wait to try it either Edward. I love new gadgets:) Thanks!
Thank you for your comment!
Things change everyday – this will be old news fast too:) Thanks Melodie!
I think it will be too Kevin. Thanks for stopping by!
Cool, this looks good. Another way for people to multi task and not get things done, lol 🙂
I’d rather not watch TV if possible, so don’t think I’ll be using this for a while, but it’s about time it was made possible.

We saw this coming, right? While this might be a useful tool, the majority of Americans will use this to become more sedentary, I’m afraid.

Wow, Google TV eh. I could have only assumed this was coming when I found out about the Google TV advertising platform. And get this, because it is incredibly powerful for us marketers.
Google has made TV advertising EXTREMELY affordable. They use a platform similar to Adwords and they actually let you create your own 30 second commercial that you can then upload and play live on the TV station of your choosing.
As far as results go, you could probably get about 100,000 views to your ad, drive about 1,000 hits to the website of your choice all for about $100 bucks. WOW!

Google TV advertising is another great tip from you:) I can’t believe it is that inexpensive. Thanks for the advice!
How do you get involved with this opportunity?
Hey Glyna! I am excited for this. I have not heard about Google TV until now but I think this has some cool implications. Thanks for sharing this!

Wow! Now I cannot wait to go out and get my Buddy Box…this is soooo cool! I’ve been trying to figure out a “logical” setup to have my computer go thru my television, and Google TV is the answer 😉 Thanks Glyna for sharing!

Hi Glyna
Wow…technology is always changing!
I know Google has to keep moving forward because FaceBook has become a
threat for Google. I don’t think we will get a box right away, but maybe
in the future. The one thing I’m concerned with is all this technology can keep us from connecting with people in our own hometown community. If we learn how to discipline ourselves to a certain amount of time spent I can see how all this can be profitable.
Thanks for keeping us updated!

Great comment Debby! Thanks!
Glyna,
Thanks for sharing this information, I am going to share this with my list as i find great value in it. Have an Awesome Day!
Chris
Please feel free to share with everyone Chris. Thanks
Exciting news for TV fans. Technology is amazing, Glyna! I’m waiting for someone to announce that the first holodeck!
Fun stuff!! Thanks for your comment Teresa!
What comes to mind for me is great now I don’t have to watch some sporting events that are only offered over the internet on my small computer screen. Of course there are many other advantages than that. I’m a little surprised that it has not happened before now.
Thanks for the post,
Michael
Hi Glyna,
I have to admit I get pretty excited about this kind of stuff!
I had been noticing a few headlines hear and there, but I hadn’t paid much attention to the launch of Google TV so far. I think I’ll be tuning in to those headlines now though!
Although I’m not much of a TV watcher, I think most people are already going from their computers to their TV’s and back again so this makes so much sense.
Thanks for keeping me on track with the latest and greatest 🙂
Hi Glyna,
This seems to be very promising and exciting for internet guys like us 😉
Thanks for Sharing this, I never knew google was doing this. I’ve always been looking for software similar to this but have failed.
Thanks for the blog! 😀
-Zane
Google never ceases to amaze! I’m sure this will be no different! Thanks Zane!
This is going to be so cool – it will just be another reason to be glued to our computers – or is that a good thing? haha Thanks Michaele!
