Confessions Of An Online Marketer

What do you do when life throws you a curve ball?  Do you give up and get down on yourself or do you find a way to bounce back?    If you are an online marketer, you realize the effort it takes to keep up with all of the things you have to get done in order to be successful.  You have blog posts, social networking and syndication, among other things, that need to be accomplished each week.  If you are not careful, it is easy to get off track and neglect some of those things.  You have to make sure you don’t allow yourself to get to “the point of no return”.  This is a lesson I learned the last few weeks and I wanted to share it with you in this video.

I hope this video motivated you to realize that even though you may have setbacks, you can always get back on track.  If you liked this post, please feel free to share it with all of your social networking friends.  Please leave a comment and any tips you would like to share on this subject.

  1. Glyna – Your blog really hit home 🙁 – I have switched from major projects to daily tasks without a plan – end result – nothing gets completed.

In addition, sleep issues arose – crashing early, waking up in the middle of the night -or- staying up late, sleeping in –

The main tip I’ll share is – go to bed the same time every evening early enough to get a good night’s sleep – within days you will be waking up at the same time every morning without an alarm clock – when I’m in my pattern 10 pm is lights out and wake up time is 5:27 (alarm is set for 5:45 just in case) early enough to have a relaxed morning routine.

I wish you a productive day Glyna

  2. Glyna,

Love your new look here. And I want you to know that you are forgiven! We all sin from time to time. Life happens, and takes over, and all that.

Time management is a big thing for me too. I love a list. It always works, and helps me see that I have achieved at least a few things I wanted to.

I try not to be too hard on myself. I can’t control everything (wish I could!). It’s all about getting back on the bike, isn’t it.

    Thanks,
    Tricia.

  3. Glyna,
Perfect! I love it! There’s nothing to forgive, life happens and I’m just glad to see you back kn the saddle again. LOL

You’ve shared a great lesson with us about sticking to your plan and getting back to it when you get side-tracked. I know it’s all for the good, no matter what. Now, look ahead and move forward, that’s the ticket!

    Here’s to be being persistant,
    Val 🙂

  4. Hello Glyna,

I can so relate. My posts are down to once a week. I was doing 5 times a week. However though I hate not being consistent in my blogging and syndication but the good news is I have been building my business.

If I have a choice I have to choose being in front of decision making people and working with my team. However, I honor all the relationships I have created online and all the amazing bloggers like yourself.

I am so grateful for your video. You are not alone and I can feel myself feeling better already.

    Faith

  5. Hi Glyna,

I can relate to this. Over the last couple of weeks or so everything else seemed to take over and I didn’t get nowhere near as much done as I had hoped.

All we can do is recognise what’s happened, forgive ouselves and get back on track asap!

    Denise

  6. So cute! I have missed you. I appreciate your honesty. We do need to stay focused.I have been very side tracked since we sold our home Sept.10th and still are homeless.Thank goodness for grown children. I have not been good lately but I am getting back in the saddle and plugging on.Thanks for the reminder here.

  7. Glyna,
What an adorable, confession video. There is really nothing to feel guilty about, really. We are all just working hard at building our online presence and businesses while so many other people are not doing all this work. They are out partying, home watching TV, spending time with friends, hanging out, etc. Building an online presence, blogging, syndicating and providing your services and creating products – is a huge undertaking. Better to view it as a long term project and not be so hard on ourselves when we can’t do as much in any given time period.

    Erica

  8. Great topic Glyna!

I agree perseverance is key to moving forward. Years ago I was taking part in the 12 week Body for Life challenge. I was working out in the office weight room. Eight weeks into the challenge our office was moved to another location. The weight room equipment was left behind. I tried to go to a local gym but I found it difficult to fit that into my routine. I stopped working out. My wife Margee, who was proud of the changes she’d seen in me since I started the challenge, bought a home gym and I started working out again after what had turned into a 2 week layoff. I learned that I can be lazy so I have to make it as easy as possible for me to accomplish significant tasks.

I love your blog…I plan to visit often.

  9. Hi Glyna!

    Oh my can I relate!

It’s the smallest things that cause hiccups too, like just over a week a go we got a big 6 month old puppy from the local donkey/dog shelter – it was unplanned, the woman that set up the charity called and said please and of course I said yes… little tyke has me up at 05:00 every morning! He demands a lot of attention and has totally thrown off my schedule (not to mention my budgeting!! – He was thrown from a car so Mr Vet has to visit quite a lot!)

I know that I could have found a way to stay on track but oh my I sinned!

I agree with Erica, big picture – long term project and there’s bound to be times we can’t do as much (with much better excuses than mine!) 😛

Loved that dramatic start to the video!

    All the best,

    Emma 🙂

  10. Hy Glyna,
Heavens, you’re human! LOL! I can’t tell you how many times I have side tracked myself!! And, it’s easy too, right? I have lists and mental deadlines, but now I am embarking on writing them down…. I enjoyed your post.. 🙂

  11. Haha – thank you for the kind words of support Emma! A new puppy, especially one with special needs, is a big project to take on but I know the love he gives back to you will be all worth it:) We all get side tracked for all kinds of reasons!

  12. Wow – you really persevered Roland and congrats on finding success even though there were obstacles that were thrown your way! Working out is something I need to get on board with too but – WOW – I don’t look forward to it:) I admire anyone who has done what you have! Keep up the good work!

  13. Hi Dr. Erica – You are so right! THis is a long term project that can’t be measured by getting off track for just a couple of weeks. That makes me feel a lot better! Thanks

  14. Hi Beverly – You have had such a long road to follow during this move but I know it will be well worth the wait! Great to hear from you and I miss you too. Let’s connect on Skype once you get settled:)

  15. You are right Denise! This time of year is very challenging and it is going to get worse with the holidays coming up. On the broad scheme of things – we need to enjoy life and fit our online stuff in as much as possible and not let it take over our lives. I realized that getting off track for a couple of weeks wasn’t the end of the world:)

  16. Faith – You “hit the nail on the head”. That is exactly what I was doing too. When it comes down to it – we have to prioritize and I had to be in front of people and working with my team in order to keep moving forward with my business. I hate being away from all of my online friends for very long but you can’t do everything all of the time:) Thanks

  17. Tricia – I think that is what bothers me so much is that I want to have control over everything and meet all of my goals. The truth is we can’t control everything and I have to learn to roll with the punches:) Thank you!

  18. Glyna, I loved your expressions at the beginning of the video! You do amazing videos, you look so relaxed, it’s just like sitting face to face with you, love them..

Yes, I get sidetracked a lot. Mostly when I try to multi-task, then I forget what I was doing originally.

And, sometimes we need to take a break from certain tasks like you did, and as long as you get back within a reasonable time, everything’s okay, like you said! Great to see you back though Glyna!

  19. Hey Glyna,

I totally know how you feel. I have been so busy with other opportunities, I have somewhat neglected my social media stuff. But you know what, when I’m doing things that are in alignment with my passions, I just let it “not” get to me since I’m choosing to take actions in alignment with my passion.

I do feel like I miss somethings with the tribe though. But I’m happy to have you all as my friends:)

  20. Hey Glyna,

I’m glad you’re back on track. We all fall off the horse from time to time. Don’t beat yourself up too much (you haven’t “sinned,” just learned a really great lesson).

The ways I overcome being sidetracked is just to be really gentle with myself. Beating ourselves up can make it so much harder to get back on track. Wasting time worrying about what you’re not doing takes a lot of energy! So I just know that my timing is perfect and elegant, treat myself very gently, and just get back on track.

Thanks so much for your video and allowing yourself to be open and vulnerable. I really appreciate it!

    Best,
    Monick

  21. Great video. I agree with you. I have gone through that myself. I will find my self getting so busy I forget to blog and take the time to really work on them filling myself with things really I do not need to be doing. Funny how life can take over sometimes and we do not even notice. I am thankful for having a husband who keeps me on my toes and reminds me time to time about my direction and where I am going. Love ya.

  22. Glyna,
There’s not a thing wrong with getting sidetracked for a time! That being said, I’m a person who has to have a daily to-do list plan. I love getting my “work” done as early in the day as possible so I can spend the rest of the day doing whatever I like. Without the written plan, however, I can get as sidetracked as 3 year old…. LOL

    Wishing you continued success,
    Robin

  23. I know – life does get in the way doesn’t it Julie? Oh well – sometimes there are things more important that need to get done. AS long as we find our way back eventually:) Thanks

  24. You are right Monick – It does take a lot of energy to worry about silly things when we just need to move on. I like that you are gentle with yourself and find a way to get back on track. Thanks

  25. Aloha Glyna,

I love your honesty and transparency in your video. Thank you for sharing with all of us. Everyone gets sidetracked, overwhelmed and distracted during the journey. Sounds like you found the solution… perseverance. Yes, consistency and being persistent is the key.

After a while, the things which seems difficult before becomes pretty easy, and then more difficult tasks will come again if you want to continue to grow. As Jim Rohn says “Don’t ask that it get easier, ask that you get better”. I do my best to remember Jim’s philosophy.

    Much aloha,
    Kellie 🙂

  26. Glyna,

I feel that one real hard, it has been a LONG time since I have been able to get online. My Insurance Business has kept me side tracked for to long. I PROMISE I will get back in the loop.

  27. Hi Glyna,

Yup. I’ve had times where I had setbacks. Since we have 4 computers in the house it’s usually not a matter of not being able to get online. Mine usually have more to do with my emotional state of mind. Actually going through a bit of that lately. I have not been functioning up to my usual capacity.

When I have times like this, I just make sure I do the basics: check email, daily TSA activity and check in on my company back office.

One thing I do to help me get back on track is some EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) on whatever is causing the emotional issue. With EFT you can clear blocks and fears around your business. Then, I find listening to audios is really helpful to get my mind on a more productive mode.

I think we all go through these times. Persistence is very important.

  28. Hi Bill – We all get side tracked from time to time. It is just important to get back on track as soon as you can:) Thank you for your comment and I look forward to see you coming back online!
