If you are looking for a get rich quick opportunity, network marketing may not be for you. I know, we have all seen the claims from the over hyped gurus and online advertising that make this claim, but in reality it may not work out that way.
What is the saying “if it sounds too good to be true, it just might be”? Those words are good advice to follow when sorting through the promises made by so many Internet scammers waiting to prey on the unexpecting.
So, what can we do to succeed in the “real” network marketing world? I have made a video with a few suggestions that just might help.

I hoped you enjoyed this video and found this information helpful. Please feel free to pass it on to your friends and leave me a comment. I would like to hear what your thoughts are on this topic.
To your Success
Glyna,
I loved the video. You are SO right in telling people about the so-called guru’s promising hundreds of leads per day, and a 5 figure monthly income easily. Yeah right! Give me a break! People need to hear what you said. It takes “hard work” and “time”. There is a reason why it is called netWORK marketing.
Regards,
Mike
Hello my friend Glyna 🙂 – my subscription to your posts is working – and no I don’t have my catamaran in the Virgin Islands yet, but I must say that affiliate marketing helps pay the bills
Nice seeing you again – you’re getting really good with those videos – say hello to Rob for me – and come visit me at my blog – will have a post up this afternoon 🙂
be blessed – Bob
Glyna,
Great tips on building an network marketing business. When I first started network marketing, I was told within one year I was going to make 6 figures a month, so of course after about 3 months with no money coming in, I quit that company. I had a different mindset back then. Fast forward 20 years and things are much better, since I know better.
Jaden
Glyna – loved this!!! So important to talk about. The three principles of success: Duplication, Time, and Consistency. So many people give up so fast, and they lose the opportunity to realize success in their network marketing venture. You have to believe in the others that have gone before you and listen to what they have to say – it takes CONSISTENCY to see results. I have just started telling people right off the bat that it is a time commitment of 2 – 5 years. If they aren’t willing to make that commitment, then I don’t need to invest my precious time in working with them. I want to make sure that we are on the same page before going into business together, and I want to make sure that I have someone that is willing to stick it out, and not quit when the going gets tough. That is what builds a successful business – having people on your team that are committed, dedicated to long-term success, and that have unbreakable beliefs! Thank you so much for getting this important info out there!
Glyna,
I love this video… it’s great to see you and hear your voice and feel your passion, warmth and generosity.
That was a great analogy – comparing building a new business with three or four years at university or college. I will remember that one, whenever the impatience sets in!
Thanks,
Tricia.
Hi Glyna,
It’s more like get rich slowly rather than quickly. Unfortunately, most people come into NM with unrealistic/false expectations either from the uplines or just being misinformed. Because of the low entry barrier, it attracts all kinds of people. Network marketing takes serious work and commitment just like any other ventures. That is the realistic picture.
Thanks for sharing,
Janette
Oh I absolutely love this Glyna!
You are such a natural with your videos. 🙂 Great tips that everyone should follow. I like the way you bring it all back to a realistic level by examining the true journey towards success in any business. Yup, at least 4 years for a college degree! Why would this be any different!
Cool,
Val 🙂
Hi Glyna,
I was one of those people who used to think that I would get rich super quick. I’m glad I now know different.
So many people need to hear this video so they don’t end up wasting their time [if they’re looking to earn £10,000 within the next 4 weeks!] with network marketing.
Denise
You are so relaxed in your videos.I loved this one too because you are so correct about MLM not being a “Get Rich Quick” business. Great tips too. Goals are important as well as constantly working on yourself. And you are so right about Never give up! Thanks Glyna!
Hey Glyna!
You are so dead on with this video. It’s unfortunate that so many of us are led to believe we can have fame and fortune overnight – and the people making those claims are giving the rest of us a bad name…
The truth is that we can have everything we set our sights on, but we need to master the skills, master our mindset, and take consistent action doing income producing activities.
Love the video…you’re such a natural on camera!
Kathy
Hi Glyna,
There’s a saying you’ve probably heard…”It’s called net Work marketing…not net Get Rich Quick marketing”. You have to work! Thanks for speaking the truth on this.
Hi Glyna,
You are so right! And that resonates with what you said to me a few days ago. So grateful that we have wise and level-headed marketers to speak the truth. Its time we hear this and get a grip on the realities and see how we can move forward in syndication and not going solo in frustration!
Enomfon
Good question and good advice. You got me thinking…
What is rich? Is it so wrong to be glad for a few thousand a month? Could that not be “rich” for many people?
It isn’t only lack of working the plan that can be disillusioning, but also expectations that are unrealistic. Sure, I know. “Think Big.” No problem. But isn’t there a balance somewhere that frees a person from doubt?
Good down to earth advice Glyna.
Hi Glyna,
I have taught my teams that you need to commit to three years of building your business! Therefore I set up their expectations from the outset. Fame and fortune can seem to come out of nowhere, but this is never the case no matter what can be perceived on the surface. I teach people that if they need to create revenue faster in say six months, then network marketing is probably not the model for them. They can make money in other ways faster. However, the concept of residual income is real in the long-term.
Thanks for sharing,
Clare
Hi Glyna:
I love your post, reality ck!!
you’re a great speaker too, really share your message well on video.
Thanks for pointing out the nitty gritty.
Sandra
Glyna,
You bring up some real good points. There is so much hype in this industry that many people get discouraged if they don’t hit it big right away. The “hype” is one of the reasons that so many people have a bad taste in their mouth about network marketing. I think we all would this industry a huge favor if we would just “real honest” with people and cut back on the “sales pitch” a little. There is some real great potential in this network marketing, but, I does take work and you must be able to appreciate the concept of “Delayed Gratification.”
Blessings
Thanks so much for saying, “This is not a get rich quick scheme.” I get so tired of people being recruited on the pretense of them getting rich overnight. It takes work and persistence just like any other business. Great post, thanks for sharing.
Helpful blog, bookmarked the website with hopes to read more!
Hi Glyna,
Most people that are looking for a better financial situation are finding the wrong people to join. Usually a family or friend without the extras that make a new network marketer successful. A good sponsor can let them know exactly how to have long term business and have a better future in the information age.
To be happy they will find that there will have times when they are miserable and times when they are happy. The trick is to make sure you spend as much time as you can on the happy side and put in the extra work with an abundance mindset. Anything is possible for anybody…age and experience have nothing to do with success.
Aloha Glyna, enjoyed your post and advice on your video clip. Luv your candor, enthusiasm and realistic terms. Glad I came by. Thanks for sharing!
Lanikee.com 🙂
PS..come by and visit and share a sweet comment. The benefits are sharing is caring! Mahalo!
Hi Glyna,
Thank you for sharing this message! It is so important. Why oh why do people fall for the hype and the scams when the reality is this business takes hard work and dedication? Like you, it astounds me when people buy into these schemes even with all the information out there that warns us to stay away!
As professional Network Marketers, we owe it to our readers to be transparent about what it takes to succeed in this business. I appreciate that you are one of the great ones sharing the right message!
Mary Lou
Hi Glyna,
Enjoyed your video. Good advice for those that have been mislead by the “get rich quick schemes”.
I guess network marketing can be lonely at times even though the nature of the ‘job’ is to connect with people. It’s good to have reassuring videos like this that encourage us to keep on working and stay focussed 🙂
Thanks!
hi Glyna,
Get rich quick, what is that? Thanks for hype free message. Your so right about all the false promises out there. It is what give Network Marketing the misconception of making money. Keep it in terms of business and you can succeed.
Mike Sweeney
In the boxing world it’s called a one two punch. In the marketing world it’s called the follow through. Your video is brings out the combine efforts of both. A beautiful poised Blond with sharp and vibrant Mind whacking us back to Reality. Great job my Lady.
You always make me laugh Nelson! Thanks for stopping by!
Yes – definitely Mike. I feel bad when I see new network marketers that have fallen for all of the hype and then just to be disappointed when they realize what it will really take to succeed. I guess we all live and learn:) Thanks
Yes – it may not be get rich quick but with the right amount of effort we will find success. Thanks Vanessa
Thanks Mary Lou I appreciate your nice comment. You are right it is so important to set the correct expectations.
Lani – Thank you for such a great comment! I will have to check you out:)
I love that Rick! Yes – the happy side is the place to be. It is so easy to get discouraged and bummed out. I much prefer the happy side. Thanks
I know – it is so frustrating to see people jumping from one opportunity to another trying to find that “overnight” success! It will always take hard work to succeed. Thanks Nicole
Yes – the sales pitch can lead you astray. However to be fair some people are just so excited about their opportunity that they go overboard with information and promises. We all need to tone it down from time to time:) Thanks Dwayne
Definite reality check! haha Thanks Sandra!
Yes – by all means Richard. Rich means different things to different people! Great point! Thanks
Hi Enomfon – It is very important to be honest with people and let them know what they are getting into. Setting expectations can make all the difference:) Thank you!
Haha – I love that Don. Yes – it definitely includes the word WORK! Thanks
Haha – Yes the word WORK is definitely in there isn’t it Mike? It is very easy to get sucked into all of the hype especially if you are brand new to the industry. Thank you for your comment!
Hi Bob – You will have that catamaran someday and you promised Rob and I a ride – remember?? Haha – Glad to see you too.
I think we do “get a grip” on things better when we get older and wiser. You will always find success with that attitude! Thanks Jaden
Summer – you are awesome! That is a great idea to get it out there from the beginning. What a great example of setting expectations! No wonder you are so successful! Thank you for sharing:)
I know we all want everything NOW but in reality it takes time and patience! You are so right Tricia! Thank you for your comment!
Thank you Janette. So many people get discouraged early on and give up because they have no idea what it is going to take to be successful in NM. All they see are all of the empty promises from people ready to take advantage of them.
Thank you so much Val! I always appreciate your feedback and friendship:)
Don’t feel bad Denise – I fell for it too at the beginning. I think that is what bothers me so much – how could I have been so stupid?? Live and learn – right?? Thanks!
Hi Beverly – Thank you so much for the nice comment! I appreciate you!
Kathy – You are dead on with this comment:) We can have it all but we have to realize it won’t come “free”. Thank you so much for your comment!
Oh Glyna,
For many – the buy in to the get rick quick is exactly how the masses teach us and want to think.. it let’s them escape from reality: “Lottery Mentality”. I will take my chances with ‘creating’ my own numbers, rather than standing in line to be lucky. I really agree with your point about ‘jumpin ship” – I’ve known them as Opportunity hoppers.. they don’t realize the one variable is THEM!!
“Where you go – there You are!” Thanks for the simple message that many overlook.
Its still the microwave mentality! The need for personal growth and community in this industry cannot be overemphasized. So many have fallen by the wayside due to huge disappointments from the reality of their ventures not working yet. Thanks so much, Glyna. You are indeed a voice of balance! Enomfon
Great point Lisa! You would think that eventually you would look around at “things gone wrong” and figure out that every problem had the same common denominator:) Thanks
Hi Enomfon – Yes – the microwave mentality is what we have going these days. We want everything “yesterday” and when that doesn’t happen we get disappointed. Thanks
Hi Glyna,
Isn’t it interesting how many people enter the network marketing industry with the expectation of making “big money” within just a few days. No other industry inspires this unrealistic expectation.
Turn off the hype … set some goals … go to work … be open to training and development opportunities … success will follow. But not overnight!
Thanks for your tips and suggestions.
Have a great day,
Susan
You have this right Susan! We all need to turn off all the hype swirling around us everyday. It is so easy to get caught up in it all. Thanks for the suggestions!
Glyna-
I think more people need to be saying this. If I hear someone else tell me how easy this business is I am going to scream. A lot of people make the claim that you will make a lot money your first month and basically there is riches by association with your company. Probably not as many people would fail in this biz if they were told the truth and knew what they were getting into in the first place. I am one of the lucky ones who did not let a little hard work get in my way!! Thanks for the post!
Yes – unfortunately the first thing that new marketers see when they come online is all of the “get rich quick” schemes that have no validity. It gets your hopes up – only to have them doused when the realization sets in that this business takes real hard work. I am glad you did not let it get in your way:) Thanks Cori!
Hi Glyna,
Thanks for putting this information out there and making it a very popular topic of conversation. I have very strong feelings about the so-called “gurus” who make ridiculous claims about how easy it will be to succeed. It’s like watching lambs to the slaughter.
It’s hard to know who to blame — the gurus for their deceitful advertising or the lambs who follow without further research. Either way, its a bad situation and has put the entire Industry in a very bad light.
As you’ve said, it IS hard work. It will take time and it will take some money. But the rewards of a successful business, when built correctly are amazing and life changing.
It is this potential that should drive new marketers to continue.
Love your blog. It’s my first time here but I’ll definitely be back.
Regards,
Bob
Thank you so much Dr. Bob! It is so easy to get caught up in the “get rich quick” scams especially when you first start in online marketing and you don’t know the difference. I appreciate your comment!
